Weekly update from the Smethwick Neighbourhood Policing team

Dear Resident,

Here’s a quick round up from me and the rest of the Smethwick Neighbourhood team.

What’s been happening

  • A great start to the week saw the team live tracking a stolen vehicle in and around Smethwick. The car tracking was slightly ahead and officers seemed to be less than a minute behind each location. The officers stuck to the task and managed to catch up with the vehicle but unfortunately the drivers had already made off.
  • PCSO’s have been out conducting parking patrols in nuisance areas. Several tickets have been issued so will be landing on doormats in the coming days.
  • Another great result during the week – officers spotted and chased down a prolific shoplifter who was wanted on recall to prison. The officers managed to detain the male after a small foot chase and swiftly escorted him to custody for processing.
  • Joint visits have been conducted this week with our local officers and the licensing team. Always great to work in partnership with other teams. No major issues to report this time around.
  • PCSO’s have conducted a police surgery in Dorothy Parkes this week – a few questions and queries from attendees for the PCSO’s to answer.
  • As part of Op Advance this week, the team were out and about getting involved with a number of things – we had a crime prevention stand in Bearwood, a joint walk with youth workers was conducted and a great response by the local kids in Unett Street Open Space. We were even persuaded to have a quick game of football.. A fantastic result to come out of the day was an arrest of a young male riding an uninsured motorcycle and was found to have large quantities of drugs and cash on him.
  • PCSO’s have met up with Age UK this week and a women’s only walk was carried out at West Smethwick Park on Wednesday. It was a beautiful day and a lovely walk.
  • A final good news story for this week – officers were called to a bus in the local area that had reported adults using drugs on the top deck of the bus. Officers attended and a foot chase followed. Again, officers came out on top having a male detailed within minutes. He was subsequently taken straight to custody after a quick person check was completed and he was found to be wanted.
  •

    A big thanks to

  • To all our partners that we work so closely with and to those that helped out and took part in our Op Advance Day. It was a great success.
  •

    Next week…

More walks planned this week – if any ladies are interested in joining the Wednesday Women’s only walk at West Smethwick Park – meet at the park at 11am. For anyone else wanting to join in a walk, you can attend the same place at the same time on Thursdays for everyone welcome walk.
