    Crime prevention

  • Please consider purchasing a steering wheel lock for your vehicle. This will decrease the chances of your vehicle being targeted by offenders. Also remember to double check that your vehicle is locked, before leaving it unattended. Installing an immobiliser and covert tracking device will also increase the chance of getting your vehicle back should it be stolen.
  • Please don’t leave valuable items on show inside your vehicle. Even loose change can be appealing to vehicle offenders.
  • With the darker nights and colder mornings in mind please make sure that you don’t leave your vehicle unattended when defrosting your windscreen. This can make the vehicle a very easy target for passing thieves, and you won’t be insured for the theft if you’ve left the vehicle insecure.
  • Consider installing anti-snap locks to all external windows and doors on your home. This will make it more difficult for potential burglars to gain access to your home. Installing a monitored burglar alarm is also a great deterrent. Try to make the front and rear of your property as well-lit as possible by installing motion activated lighting.
  • CCTV is a great deterrent for offenders. This can also be crucial in linking criminals to multiple crimes.
  • When using a cash point please make sure that you are aware of your surroundings, making sure that nobody is trying to distract you or look over your shoulder. If there are others in the queue behind you, make sure that they are at a reasonable distance and they cannot see you enter your pin. Also shield the pin with your hands.

    Local news

  • Home Office funding is provided to West Midlands Police to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime in areas that are identified as having a high rate of these incidents. As a result, local officers have been conducting targeted patrols in these locations, with the aim of providing a visible presence, engaging with the local community and deterring this type of behaviour. When your local Officers are off duty, these patrols are conducted by policing teams from other areas, ensuring that there is continual coverage. Officers record the results of these patrols and the information is then returned to the home office. Your local officers have been hard at work conducting these patrols, so please feel welcome to have a chat when you see us.
  • Officers from the Shirley Neighbourhood Policing Team located a stolen Hyundai I20 whilst out on their patrols and recovered the vehicle.
  • Shirley Officers also recovered two black Carrera push bikes that were hidden behind wooden crates on Borley Close, Shirley.
