An update from the Perry Barr/ Oscott neighbourhood team

Good evening,

This is just a message to let you know what your local neighbourhood team have been doing this week.

What we did this week:

We carried out school patrols across multiple different schools to make sure parents are parking safely and acting responsibly around school pick up and drop off times.

We began talks in setting up events like pop up police stations at one stop shopping centre, look out for those in future.

We also did a walkabout with the councillor for the area Morriam, she let us know about a lot of the issues being experienced within the community so that we can begin to help.

And finally we have been patrolling much more in the parks around Oscott and Perry Barr to help keep parks as a safe and friendly environment, and make people feel comfortable walking through them again.

What we have planned:

Going forward we will make sure our presence within the community is both seen and felt

We plan to continue to patrol schools to make sure everyone is safeguarded.

We will continue our patrols in area's known for anti-social behaviour and drug usage.

And we will continue to build up relations with local groups to allow for us to reach the widest amount of people possible.

Some advice to safeguard yourself:

We have noticed a rise in car thefts recently and thought this would be a good time to pass on some words of advice.

If your car has a key-less ignition it is important you invest in a faraday pouch. These pouches block the signal sent by your keys which should prevent your keys signal from being used to break into your car.

Invest in a steering lock, these locks are another line of defence against criminals, these locks prevent the steering wheel being turned and having one of these alone can be enough to deter a thief.

Park your cars in more secure locations, although not always applicable you may want to consider parking your car on a drive way, or a well lit area, or even in a garage if possible, cars being parked in these areas rather than the street help to deter car thieves.

Simply employing one of these pieces of advice will leave your cars much more secure however, following all three can make your chances of your car being targeted even lower.

We understand that it has been a long time since Perry Barr and Oscott have felt the presence of the police, but, we plan on building our ties to the community back up and be the positive impact in the community that we should be.

Kind regards,

The Perry Barr/Oscott neighbourhood team
