Vehicle and shoplifting operation in Shirley and Solihull

Sunday 4th May 2025

Dear resident,

Officers from the Shirley Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted an operation in Shirley and Solihull on the 23rd April 2025 focusing on vehicle crime and shoplifting.

Shoplifting is an issue along the Stratford road and uniformed officers were utilised to provide a visible presence to deter crime, as well as plain clothed officers to catch offenders in the act. Our officers worked in partnership with Safer Travel officers as many of the shoplifting offenders use the bus network to travel to and from the area.

Traffic Officers were utilised to combat vehicle thieves operating along the Stratford Road and off-road bike teams were also deployed due to issues with off-road bikers causing a nuisance in the streets and parks of Shirley and Solihull.

Some of the results of the operation are as followed:

- Two individuals were arrested for shoplifting offences.

- Two drivers received fixed penalty notices for having illegal tinted windows.

- Three vehicles were seized for various offences including no insurance and driving without a licence. Fixed penalty notices were also issues to the drivers. Attached is an image of one of the vehicles that was seized during this operation.

- Officers implemented their stop and search powers on numerous occasions which resulted in stolen items being recovered.

- Officers engaged with multiple individuals in relation to begging, which resulted in two individuals being moved on from the area.

Kind regards

PCSO Daniel Talbot 31111
