Local crime

Below is a snapshot of the vehicle crime and burglaries that have been recorded in the Shirley area between the 28th April 2025 to the 6th May 2025:

Burglaries:

  • Between 23:44pm and 23:52pm on the 27/05/2025 a male was knocking the front door a property on Greenhill Way. He then jumped the wall to access the rear of the property and the kitchen window was smashed, although there he didn’t get inside.
  • Between 09:00am on the 29/04/2025 and 09:00am on the 06/05/2025 a lawnmower and decorating table was stolen from an insecure garage on Featherstone Crescent.
  • Between midday on the 02/05/2025 and midday on the 03/05/2025 the side gate to a property on Lambscote Close was broken off its hinges. The rear door of the property then had glass panels removed and a TV was stolen from inside.
  • Vehicle crime:

  • Between 21:00pm on the 27/04/2025 and 05:30am on the 28/04/2025 the nearside front window of a black Vauxhall Zafira was smashed on Greenhill Way. A sat-nav and a blue badge was then stolen from within the vehicle.
  • Between 20:30pm on the 28/04/2025 and 07:25am on the 29/04/2025 a grey Ford Kuga was stolen from St Gerards Road. The vehicle was later recovered from a separate location.
  • Between 01:15am and 01:17am on the 30/04/2025 a white Ford Transit was hotwired and stolen from Radbourne Road.
  • At 04:10am on the 05/05/2025 a small dark vehicle pulled up on Burman Road. Individual(s) from this vehicle then proceeded to steal a black Mitsubishi L200.
  • At 01:13am on the 06/05/2025 two individuals approached a blue Audi RS6 that was parked on a driveway on Shotteswell Road. They proceeded to pace up and down on the driveway for approximately 10 minutes, potentially trying to use a relay device to steal the vehicle. ID and sunglasses were stolen from inside the car.
  • Between 02:00am and 02:30am on the 28/04/2025 a white Toyota Prius was stolen from the driveway of a property on Acheson Road.
  • Between 09:39am on the 27/04/2025 and 14:02 on the 28/04/2025 a grey Ford Kuga was stolen Danbury Road.
  • At 01:00am on the 06/05/2025 an individual gained access to a grey BWM X5 that was parked on Hurdis Road, whilst another individual was stood next to the car with an unknown device in their hand, possibly a relay device. The car had a ghost immobiliser fitted and the individuals were therefore unable to steal it.

    Crime prevention advice

  • Please consider purchasing a steering wheel lock for your vehicle. This will decrease the chances of your vehicle being targeted by offenders. Also remember to double check that your vehicle is locked, before leaving it unattended. Installing an immobiliser and covert tracking device will also increase the chance of getting your vehicle back should it be stolen.
  • Please don’t leave valuable items on show inside your vehicle. Even loose change can be appealing to vehicle offenders.
  • For further crime prevention tips visit our website at https://www.westmidlands.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/keeping-vehicles-safe/preventing-car-vehicle-theft/ .
  • Consider installing anti-snap locks to all external windows and doors on your home. This will make it more difficult for potential burglars to gain access to your home. Installing a monitored burglar alarm is also a great deterrent. Try to make the front and rear of your property as well-lit as possible by installing motion activated lighting.
  • CCTV is a great deterrent for offenders. This can also be crucial in linking criminals to multiple crimes.

    Local news

  • Home Office funding is provided to West Midlands Police to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime in areas that are identified as having a high rate of these incidents. As a result, local officers have been conducting targeted patrols in these locations, with the aim of providing a visible presence, engaging with the local community and deterring this type of behaviour. When your local Officers are off duty, these patrols are conducted by policing teams from other areas, ensuring that there is continual coverage. Officers record the results of these patrols and the information is then returned to the home office. Your local officers have been hard at work conducting these patrols, so please feel welcome to have a chat when you see us.
  • Shirley officers have now trained volunteers for a brand-new Shirley Speedwatch group. This group, along with officers from our team, will be conducting Speedwatch operations in the local area to monitor reports of speeding. This data can then be used for speed enforcement in the future.
  • Shirley officers conducted a plain clothed operation along the Stratford Road on the 03/05/2025. As a result, a stolen motorbike was recovered by officers and two Community Protection Notices were issued to individuals for separate offences.
  • Shirley Officers also arrested a prolific shoplifter that has been targeting various locations in the Solihull and Birmingham area.
  • Shirley officers have been enforcing the Solihull School Streets initiative on Clifton Crescent this week. Please avoid driving down this road, weekdays between 08:30am-09:10am and 14:45pm- 15:45pm unless you have a permit, as you may receive a fixed penalty notice.
