Incident
On 04/01/26 at approximately 11:00am, a resident on Wroxall Drive in Willenhall has left his vehicle running to defrost, before heading back into his house, leaving the vehicle insecure and unattended. An opportunist offender has seen this whilst walking past, jumped into the vehicle (a black BMW 5 series estate) and made off towards St James Lane in the stolen car. 8 mins later, the vehicle was spotted by Neighbourhood Officers on Alex Grierson Close. Officers immediately approached the vehicle and attempted to detain the driver, however the offender fought, reversed and made off at speed, whilst dragging officers along with the stolen vehicle. One officer’s foot was ran over by the offender in the process resulting in the need for immediate hospital treatment, and another officer was also injured. The stolen vehicle was found abandoned around the corner in Edward Bailey Close minutes afterwards. The offender was quickly identified through body worn footage and was arrested that same evening from an address in Willenhall. He was also further identified for other recent offences in the area.
Terrance HANNEFIN appeared in court yesterday for the following offences; He received 16 weeks in prison and is disqualified from driving for 12 months.
In light of this incident and the recent cold weather, we would like to remind you please do not leave your vehicles running whilst unattended!
One of the officers is currently out of action however both are recovering. | ||
