Local crime Below is a snapshot of the vehicle crime and burglaries that have been recorded in the Shirley area between Sunday 1st February and 9th February 2026.
Burglary On 7th February between 1700 – 23.30 on Solihull Road the homeowner has returned home to find the kitchen window open; offenders have attempted to enter the property. Nothing was stolen.
Vehicle crime:
No reports.
Crime prevention advice Please consider purchasing a steering wheel lock for your vehicle. This will decrease the chances of your vehicle being targeted by offenders. Also remember to double check that your vehicle is locked, before leaving it unattended. Installing an immobiliser and covert tracking device will also increase the chance of getting your vehicle back should it be stolen. Please don’t leave valuable items on show inside your vehicle. Even loose change can be appealing to vehicle offenders. - For crime prevention tips to keep your shed and garage safe please visit our website at https://www.westmidlands.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/protect-home-crime/secure-shed-garage/ . - Consider installing anti-snap locks to all external windows and doors on your home. This will make it more difficult for potential burglars to gain access to your home. Installing a monitored burglar alarm is also a great deterrent. Try to make the front and rear of your property as well-lit as possible by installing motion activated lighting. - CCTV is a great deterrent for offenders. This can also be crucial in linking criminals to multiple crimes.
Local news - Home Office funding is provided to West Midlands Police to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime in areas that are identified as having a high rate of these incidents. As a result, local officers have been conducting targeted patrols in these locations, with the aim of providing a visible presence, engaging with the local community and deterring this type of behaviour. When your local Officers are off duty, these patrols are conducted by policing teams from other areas, ensuring that there is continual coverage. Officers record the results of these patrols, and the information is then returned to the home office. Your local officers have been hard at work conducting these patrols, so please feel welcome to have a chat when you see us. - Shirley officers have now trained volunteers for a brand-new Shirley Speed watch group. This group, along with officers from our team, will be conducting Speed watch operations in the local area to monitor reports of speeding. This data can then be used for speed enforcement in the future.
Local issues.
On 7th February between 16.20 – 1800 we were busy dealing with a large group of youth all aged between 14/ 16 years, some wearing face masks. They caused Anti-social behaviour in Parkgate and on the Stratford Road. Unfortunately, later in the evening a serious incident occurred where two youths were attached with a machete. I have sent you all a survey to complete regarding issues surrounding Anti-social behaviour that effect you, sometimes daily.
Please ‘have your say’ what is your main concern around Shirley? I am aware that some residents cannot attend the next Community meeting to be held on 26th February. I am trying to arrange another meeting and have invited your local Council and M. P’s. This is a joint problem that we all must solve.
On 3rd February two elderly residents were ‘scammed’ in ICELAND car park by a male pretending to be a ticket warden. Report stated he has got into the rear of the vehicle and asked for their card/ pin number. He is described as; Asian, chubby build,40 – 50 years old, dark clothing and a black hat. Please UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES give your card or pin to anyone. Call 999 straight away if you are approached by anyone in / around Shirley.
Thank you all for your continued support.
Best regards
PCSO Yvonne Dunne
Next meeting; Shirley Library 26th February 1800 – 18.50
