Hi Resident In our commitment to deal with Crime and ASB, West Midlands Police use a Crime Prevention and Problem Solving Plan which is called a SARA Plan. What is a Police SARA PLAN SARA Plan is a structured, four-stage problem-solving framework used by police forces—including West Midlands Police—to tackle recurring crime and community safety issues. The acronym stands for Scanning, Analysis, Response, and Assessment. Instead of just reacting to individual incidents, it aims to identify and address the root causes of persistent problems. The Four Stages of a SARA Plan Scanning (Identifying the Problem)
Analysis (Understanding the Problem)
Response (Developing Solutions)
Assessment (Evaluating the Result)
Why it is used in the West Midlands West Midlands Police uses SARA plans specifically for Targeted Guardian Patrols and neighbourhood policing to ensure resources are focused on the areas with the highest risk of harm. This approach has contributed to significant reductions in violent crime in designated "SARA areas"
