When to call 999... |

Hello Resident
West Midlands Police (WMP) advises that you should only call 999 in emergency situations where an immediate response is required.
When to Call 999 Call 999 immediately if:
· Danger to life: Someone’s life is at risk or they are in immediate danger of harm. · Violence: Someone is currently using violence or is making an immediate threat to use it. · Crime in progress: A crime is happening right now, such as a burglary, theft, or assault. · Suspect nearby: A suspect for a serious crime is still at or very near the scene. · Road Safety: A road traffic collision has occurred where someone is seriously injured, or the road is blocked/dangerously obstructed. Silent 999 Calls If you are in danger but cannot speak on the phone:
· From a Mobile: Dial 999 and, when prompted by the operator, press 55. This "Silent Solution" alerts the police that you have a genuine emergency but are unable to talk. · From a Landline: If the operator hears only background noise, they will automatically transfer your call to the police. When NOT to Call 999 For non-emergencies, you should use the WMP Online Reporting Tool or call 101. Examples include:
· Reporting a crime that has already happened (e.g., your car was stolen overnight). · Providing general information about crime in your area. · Contacting a local officer or requesting crime prevention advice.
Wednesfield & Heath Town
Ongoing Local Priorities (When NOT to use 999) For issues that are not immediate emergencies, use 101 or the WMP Online Reporting Tool. Current non-emergency priorities in your area include: · Bentley Bridge & Crossways Shopping Centre: Persistent anti-social behaviour (ASB) and retail theft. Recent successes include the arrest of a prolific shoplifter on 17 March 2026. · Illegal E-Riders: Proactive patrols are targeting "souped-up" electric bikes used for dangerous riding or drug dealing around Heath Town and Bentley Bridge. · Chop Shops: Intelligence-led reports of illicit vehicle dismantling should be reported via 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers. Upcoming Non-Emergency Community Events If you have concerns that don't require an emergency response, you can meet the Wednesfield and Heath Town Neighbourhood Team at these upcoming sessions: · Coffee With Cops: Wednesday, 25 March 2026, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at The Hub at Ashmore Park (WV11 2LH). · Wednesfield Market Pop-up: Wednesday, 25 March 2026, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Wednesfield High Street. Thank you from your Wednesfield and Heath Town Team. | ||
