Are you or do you know anyone who is a victim of stalking. Here are some signs of stalking and ways to report it to the police.
Identifying Stalking: The FOUR Pattern
West Midlands Police uses the FOUR acronym to help you identify if a series of actions constitutes stalking:
Fixated: The person is intensely focused on you, finding multiple ways to get your attention or be part of your life.
Obsessed: They constantly monitor your location and activities, whether online or in person.
Unwanted: The attention is unwelcome, and you may have already asked them to stop.
Repeated: The behaviour happens two or more times.
Common Stalking Behaviours
Stalking behaviours vary but often include:
Surveillance: Following you, spying on you, or loitering near your home, workplace, or places you frequently visit.
Unwanted Contact: Repeatedly sending text messages, emails, or letters, or making persistent phone calls.
Gifts: Sending or leaving unwanted gifts, such as flowers or chocolates.
Cyberstalking: Using the internet or spyware to monitor you, creating fake profiles to bypass blocks, or engaging in identity theft.
Property Damage: Breaking into your home or car, or damaging your property.
If you or someone you know is being affected by stalking, West Midlands Police (WMP) provides several ways to report these crimes and access specialist support during National Stalking Awareness Week 2026.
