Hello, and welcome to your regular round up from the St Matthew’s Neighbourhood Policing Team. Keeping the different communities in St Matthew’s informed of some of the activity that goes on. This week St Matthews Neighbourhood Officers have had a very proactive week and would like to share with you the great work that has been done in your area. This week (18th-24th May) Operation Sceptre has commenced whereby all 43 Police Forces across England and Wales have undergone a week of intensified action and coordinated activities which target knife crime from the root cause right through to enforcement, so we would like to share with you what we have been doing: Knife sweep conducted at Arboretum, looking for any possible weapons that have been discarded or hidden, and staff/park rangers have been advised on what to look out for in relation to people possibly carrying knives and safest way to deal and report Two juveniles have been arrested for possession of a bladed article Another juvenile has been arrested for Robbery and possession of Cannabis Several proactive stop searches have been conducted as part of the OP Sceptre Street watch patrol conducted on Rushall Manor estate whereby volunteers have been educated by local PCSO’S about OP Sceptre A Knife crime awareness input has been rolled out to students at a local training provider from the local PCSO’S- Making the students aware to the dangers of knife crime Officers have conducted Anti-Social Behaviour patrols in company with Green Square Accord housing, visiting various properties across the St Matthews area to provide reassurance and deal with issues that have been highlighted by the public Street Watch patrol conducted in Walsall Town Centre with help from students at Walsall College to undertake a knife sweep of the area and pass on the message to fellow students on the dangers of knife crime Officers have conducted some test purchasing visits with Walsall Trading standards. The visits were targeted at different shop locations, after intel had been received that some illegal selling of products had been made. Visit to St Matthews Church to attend Places of Welcome group and provide support to the local community PCSO’S have attended Walsall Society for the blind, Hatherton Road and provided an input on crime prevention and personal safety to service users and have been asked to return as this proved beneficial to their members!
