Dear Members, Here’s a quick round up from the South Yardley neighbourhood policing team.
It’s been a busy and sunny start to May… Demand is being to increase, resulting into some of the team supporting response with incoming incidents. We know this may take them away from neighbourhood, but they will continue to support where they can to the area. We have been working with various key partners; trading standards, Birmingham City council parking and enforcement, community safety partnerships, modern day slavery and many more around a key area within South Yardley to tackle ongoing long-term problems to residents. We are continuing this piece of work with organising a local day of action to target harden any warnings issued to businesses because of their conduct. During this we have conducted numerous stop and searches having found people in vehicles consuming nitrous oxide or other controlled drugs. Positive action taken with the offenders involved whereby out of court methods where conducted. This stays on their record and failing to comply will result in being unable to be involved in the same disposal. We located a male who provide false details and confirmed them using our fingerprint scanner. They turned out to wanted and was arrested as a result. We have had meetings with the Birmingham Children’s trust around concerns of children being involved in CCE. This is to get in at the earliest opportunity and steer them away from any crime and safeguard them first and foremost. Business Watch meetings will be taking place in the next month to discuss any concerns or problems they are facing. There has been a new team set up to support all retail crime from Sutton Coldfield through to Moseley/hall Green, including everything in between. Since 01/05/26 to current, we have issued 88 tickets, 17 vehicles have been seized. This involves no tax, obstruction of the highway or inconsiderate parking or no insurance. We will be conducting a traffic operation next month; no dates or times will be released for this for a reason. We have seen an influx of traffic officers in the area to support. Empowered Steps has been cancelled for 27th May at 1200 for Oaklands Rec. This is due to demand, and we are looking at rescheduling this in the coming weeks. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. However, we will be conducting the one in Small Heath Park on Saturday 30th May at 15:00, the meeting point is at the band stand. We will also be getting involved in the running aspect of Empowered Steps and we will be in Oaklands Rec on Saturday 6th conducting a survey to understand sex-based harassment. We will also be getting involved with the runners with a 5k! All of this is to support the community with tackling VAWG and ensuring we are support all females with any concerns or issues they are facing.
We are hoping you are all enjoying the weather and remaining safe at all times.
