|
In Tipton, specifically around Great Bridge, Princes End, Tipton Green, West Midlands Police (WMP) and Sandwell Council are actively targeting illegal e-riders as part of a broader crackdown on anti-social behaviour (ASB). Residents have reported dangerous riding, including bikes speeding on pavements and jumping red lights at Great Bridge island. Local Enforcement Actions Targeted Patrols: Officers have increased presence in hotspot areas including Tipton Green, Princes End, and Great Bridge to intercept illegally modified e-bikes and off-road bikes. Seizures & Crushing: During recent operations in Sandwell , police seized illegal e-bikes and reported riders for having no licence or insurance. Vehicles that cannot be legally registered are sent to be crushed. The "Illegal" Criteria Police will "put the brakes" on riders if their vehicle meets these conditions: Speed: The e-bike motor provides assistance above 15.5mph or functions without the rider pedalling (twist-and-go). Power: The motor exceeds 250 Watts. Public Use: Private e-scooters are currently illegal to use on any public road or pavement in the West Midlands. To report a specific rider or a recurring hotspot in Tipton anonymously, you can use the Crimestoppers online form.
