West Midlands Police advise preventing theft from motor vehicles by following the "Lock, Take, Hide" approach. Key measures include removing all valuables, securing keyless fobs in signal-blocking pouches, parking in well-lit areas, and installing visible physical deterrents. 

Key Crime Prevention Steps: 

Lock and Double-Check: Always lock doors, close windows, and the sunroof. Manually check door handles and confirm central locking has engaged.

Hide Valuables and Clues: Take all personal items, bags, and charging cables with you. Suction marks on windscreens or dangling cables can signal to thieves that valuable items might be hidden in the glovebox.

Protect Keyless Entry: Store smart fobs (including spares) in Faraday Bags to prevent signal relay attacks or cloning

Physical Deterrents: Use visible security items like steering wheel locks or pedal boxes

Van Security: Tradespeople should use lockable, security-rated internal cabinets for tools and clearly mark equipment to make it identifiable. 

Remove Documents: Never leave registration or insurance documents in the vehicle, as thieves can use them to pose as the owner.
