Monthly Community Update from Sgt Powell – Sept - Oct 2026. |

Dear residents of Hillfields,
As we step into October, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the work carried out by your local police team throughout September 2026.
The Hillfields Neighbourhood Team have remained committed to ensuring safety and security for everyone in your community. Our primary policing priority continues to be Violence Against Woman and Girls and Anti-Social Behaviour where efforts to prevent crime and maintain order remain a top focus. It has become aware that we have seen a rise in Anti-Social behaviour in the areas of Signet Square and Keppel Street this month. From this we have begun problem solving with the Local Authority, Housing Associations, Youth Interventions and Local Schools to work collaboratively in preventing these issues. Over the course of the coming weeks you’ll see the team paying visits to residents in these areas in order to understand the issues, taking positive action but working with the right service to reduce and prevent the problems which residents have reported. This aligned to West Midlands Police Mission of Working in partnership, making communities safer.
Arrests & Disruptions
Throughout September, the team have been proactive around the areas which was identified previously by residents such as Harnall Lane East / Swan Lane and roads nearby where they have made Thirty One (31) Arrests related to various offences, including Drug Drive, Possession with intent to supply Class A, Assault, Burglary, Theft and Recall to Prison.
The team have been focused on disruption and in particular persons causing Anti-Social Behaviour where we have issued Five Community Protection Warnings and Three Community Protection Notices have been served, this has led to further arrests to stop this type of behaviour causing issues to residents within Hillfields.
In September the team have been working with Road Policing Unit in order to tackle Surron Bikes / E-Bikes being driven illegally and dangerously on the road, this has led to Three E-Bikes being seized along with Eleven vehicles seized for driving on a road with No Insurance or parked up on a road displaying out of date Tax.
This approach demonstrates our ongoing drive and commitment to removing criminal elements from the community and ensuring Hillfields remains a safe place for all residents.
The team have also continued and participated in targeted patrols in identified areas linked to serious youth violence, this has led to positive engagement with members of public and reassurance around the work we have been doing.
The team have continued their community engagement where we have met residents from Keppel Street. This allowed for positive dialogue around the issues which residents have faced and a problem-solving approach has been adopted with partners in order to reduce these issues. It has though been acknowledged that in this area we would like residents to participate in is that of Street Watch and the benefits this can offer in tackling aspects collectively.
For details of Street Watch see information below but if this is something which you are interested in please make contact with email: stmichaels@westmidlands.police.uk
Streetwatch is a community patrol initiative that helps you make a difference where you live. Street watch gives you and your community an opportunity to keep your area safe, including just walking round your neighbourhood, which can really help. Local police keep in regular contact with street watch members to share information and work in partnership with you. Street Watch | West Midlands Police
The team have our next planned Police and Communities Together meeting on 27th October from 1700hrs till 1800hrs at Thomas King House, if you would like details around our planned meetings information can be found at: West Midlands Police – St Michaels Meetings and Events. We have also planned Cuppa with Coppa Events booked for 2026 so make sure they are in your calendars to come and meet the team discussing matters which mean the most to you. As we near the end of summer, and head into darker nights, it's important to take extra precautions to keep your home and vehicle safe. We often see a seasonal rise in burglary and car crime across the West Midlands through the autumn and winter months.
Criminals will use the cover of darkness to act. Most burglaries happen through insecure doors and windows, so where you can close them, and lock them even when you’re in. If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbours ask them if they would like some help with their home security.
Whilst out on patrol it has come to our attention that there have been reports of furniture and unwanted items being dumped on the streets of Hillfields, I will encourage you all to be aware of the website ‘Fix My Street’. This will allow yourselves as residents to report these matters along with damaged street furniture to the Local Authority:
Social Media As a team we regularly post on social media updating yourselves of the work we do both ‘Live Time’ but also Post Event, it would be great if you can follow us as this will give you the opportunity to be aware of the various activities or incidents we are involved in, details below. We strongly encourage residents to report any suspicious activity or criminal behaviour. If you have information that could assist in keeping Hillfields safe, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111 or visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org. Your reports can make a real difference in preventing crime and protecting the community.
In addition to reporting crime, it’s important to take proactive steps to protect your home and belongings. Whether it's securing doors and windows, using good-quality locks, or improving outdoor lighting, small precautions can make a big difference.
