Do you have a child, grandchild, or friend who's learning to drive, preparing for their test or has recently passed? Help them get ready for life on the road by sharing details of our new ‘Road Safe Ready’ sessions with them. West Midlands Fire Service is launching a series of FREE, two-hour road safety sessions at fire stations across Birmingham, the Black Country and Coventry, running from November until March 2027. Primarily aimed at 17 to 24-year-olds, we'll cover important advice to help young drivers stay safe, including understanding speed limits, managing peer pressure and making safer decisions behind the wheel. Parents and carers are welcome to attend alongside their children, so it's a great opportunity to learn together and talk about staying safe on the road. The sessions have been developed by one of our firefighters - Crew Commander Paul Harper, whose own son was involved in a collision in 2023. Thankfully, he made a full recovery, but the experience inspired Paul to help other young people understand the risks they may face on the road. We're also grateful to Sue and Dave Evans, who've helped shape the sessions after tragically losing their son, Simon, in a car crash in March 2025. How to get involved Our first session takes place at Aston Fire Station on Wednesday 4 November 2026, with further sessions taking place at stations across the region. You can register your interest and book a place by entering your name and email address, choosing your preferred month and selecting a session. We'll then contact you to confirm your place. Register your interest and book a FREE session You can also read more about Road Safe Ready and the story behind its launch. Please help us spread the word. Even if you're not in the target age group yourself, sharing this opportunity with your children, grandchildren, friends and family could help someone you know build the knowledge and confidence to make safer choices on the road. | ||
